Garage conversion Edinburgh

Transform your garage, expand your home.

Do you have a garage that you don’t use? With eco-awareness on the rise, many people have ditched their cars in favour of greener transport. Others just use theirs for junk and keep the car in the driveway. With all that wasted space, why not make the most of it?

Optimise your space - Complete garage conversions

Whether you’ve never had a car, recently got rid of one, or simply keep it in your driveway, there are thousands of options for garage renovation. Families commonly opt for more living space; a TV room, music room, or extra lounge.

If you’ve recently started working from your house, a new home-office, workshop, or studio might be right for you. We can install skylights or French windows for a lighter, airier space, which you’ll hardly be able to recognise as your old garage. If you want to save money in the long run and be more eco-friendly, we can also install insulation as well as energy-efficient lights and heating.

What should I consider before getting a garage conversion?

Your options for garage renovation may vary depending on your budget. This is an important thing to consider before embarking on any project.

Some other things to think about include:

  • Layout – Do you want to keep the original layout of the garage or divide it into several rooms?

  • Amenities – If you’re converting to a workshop or studio space perhaps you want sinks or drainage installed. Electricity and heating are also important, especially if your garage doesn’t already have these conveniences.

  • Insulation

  • Windows and doors – Consider skylights or French windows to add light to your space.

  • Finishing – Skirting boards, flooring, paint job, lighting fixtures and furniture.

Will I need planning permission for a garage conversion?

Not usually, as long as the conversion doesn’t change the external structure of your home (although this can vary). However, you are likely to require a building warrant from your local council before you start work. We will help you with this aspect of your project, whether you need a permit, a warrant or full planning permission.

Will a garage conversion add value to my home?

Yes, especially if you still have off road parking such as a driveway. Estimates suggest you could add up to 10% of the value of your property.
